Established since 2016, in Castelo Branco, Portugal, the Companhia do Lucriz consists of 1000 hectares of land, in which approximately 500 hectares are planted with walnut trees including 65000 Chandler and 5000 Howard trees, making it the largest walnut farm in Iberia Peninsula.The farm has been consulting, and continues to, with the experts of University of California, Davis as well as Portuguese and Spanish consultants who are the best in the area, to produce the highest quality walnuts.The farm also has 6,500 olive trees planted in 70 ha area and producing high quality olive oil with brand name “Ataman”.
With large investments in top quality machinery imported from France and the USA, the farm is able to harvest the nuts in a short period of time and ensure that they are dried at the optimum 8%. This gives the walnut a lighter colour, avoids the risk of mould and ensures it can be stored for longer periods of time maintaining the quality of taste and appearance. The facilities and production process employed by Companhia do Lucriz is among the most advanced in Iberia Peninsula.
The farm is producing mainly the Chandler variety of walnut due to its popularity. It’s main characteristics being light colour, thin shell and high kernel percentage.
